Bathurst is a city of surprises, a historical town with a settlement history, spanning back to the Gold Rush Era. We soak up gold rush heritage and embrace motor racing fever. Orange with its well-deserved reputation for stunning landscapes and exceptional food and wine is the perfect place to indulge our senses. The region’s food and wine focus is paddock to plate nirvana!

ITINERARY

DAY 1 – SYDNEY – TO BATHURST (BL)

Our first destination is Mt Tomah and the only botanic gardens in a World Heritage Listed area. We spend the morning with a guided tour and early lunch. We then head towards the town of Bathurst, stopping enroute to take a loop around the famous Mount Panorama Motor Racing Circuit. From the top we enjoy the spectacular views of Bathurst followed by a stop at the fascinating National Motor Racing Museum. Our destination for the next 2 nights is Bathurst. With settlement spanning back to before the Gold Rush era and a rich Aboriginal history before that, Bathurst is as culturally rich now as it ever was.

DAY 2 – BATHURST – GOLDFIELDS DAY (BLD)

This morning we head off to explore Australia’s oldest surviving gold town Sofala. Nestled into the Turon River valley Sofala is a village with an authentic old-world charm. We have time to enjoy a stroll and learn the history of the town. Departing, we travel to the well-preserved colonial gold mining town of Hill End for lunch. After lunch, wander along Hill End’s historic streets on the village walking track before commencing the Bald Hill Walk, passing through woodlands and beside old mine workings. We return to Bathurst in the late afternoon and dinner this evening in a local restaurant.

DAY 3 – BATHURST – ORANGE (BLD)

We spend the morning in the beautiful Heritage listed town of Millthorpe. Enjoy some time at leisure to browse the enticing boutiques before we try some of the locally produced wines followed by lunch at the quaint Old Mill Cafe. Continuing we make our way to Orange which is famed for fresh produce and cool climate wines. This afternoon we visit Emmaville Cottage, believed to be the last farm building from the property that the mother of one of Australia’s most famous poets Banjo Patterson lived before the birth of her son. A local guide takes us on a comprehensive tour of Orange before we check into our hotel.

DAY 4 – ORANGE (BLD)

Today is all about the produce of Orange! Known as ‘Australia’s Food Basket’, the region is a haven of vineyard-dotted hills and abundant stone fruit and orchards. The combination of high altitude, a cool climate and rich volcanic soil create prime conditions for growing grapes, cherries, peaches, plums, apples, figs, quinces, truffles and so much more. The district’s unique viticulture produces fine cool climate wines, which visitors will begin to recognise as they taste their way through the region’s many cellar doors. Today is spent touring and tasting a selection of wineries and local farms. Lunch to be enjoyed at a local winery. Return to our accommodation late afternoon with the evening free at leisure.

DAY 5 – ORANGE – JENOLAN CAVES – SYDNEY (BL)

An early departure from Orange as we head to the internationally acclaimed Jenolan Caves regarded as one of Australia’s most spectacular cave systems. We enjoy a guided tour of one of the spectacular show caves and the surrounding pristine Australian Bush. From here we travel on to the historic Hydro Majestic hotel where we feast on lunch with stunning valley views at Boiler House Café, Our return journey to Sydney takes us along the picturesque Cliff Drive to view the famous 3 Sisters before returning late afternoon to Sydney CBD.
